The City tunnel in Malmö will be inaugurated during 2010. An important part of the security consists of a camera-based ITV system which shall exercise surveillance over critical sections of the City tunnel. Lagercrantz Group’s subsidiary ISG has supplied the ITV system.

The City tunnel is built for passenger traffic with strict demands on security, both in the construction phase and operational phases. A safe and secure environment for passengers is created through good evacuation possibilities and carefully prepared solutions for the design of the stations.

The physical security is backed up by an advanced security system.  The system controls such things as emergency lighting, emergency telephones, emergency displays as well as fire and intrusion alarms. The tunnel’s most critical sections are covered by camera surveillance which is interconnected by the ITV system supplied by ISG.

The security system continuously sends information to ISG’s ITV system so that recordings from the cameras, connection of relevant camera images and the like, happen automatically in the event of various incidents.

The ITV system consists of almost 200 cameras which according to the plans are to be mounted during the autumn. There will be camera surveillance at the entrances to the City tunnel and at the Hyllie, Triangeln and Malmö C station areas. There are also 13 cross-tunnels in the City tunnel at approximately 350 meter intervals. The cross-tunnels are for service personnel, technical installations and not least for evacuations in the event of any accidents. A total of 52 cameras are located at the cross-tunnels, one in each direction into each tunnel.

ISG’s cameras do not just film what happens. The ITV system is smart and also analyses what the cameras record. A three dimensional model of what in reality is to be monitored is designed in the system. The image is analysed and objects which do not belong to the background are identified. Together, the analysis and the three dimensional model can accurately determine the size of objects in all perspectives. The intelligent system can make many decisions of its own based on the criteria and classifications that have been programmed in.
